Employer Info Session for Journalism and Public Comm Students with Hugh Delehanty
Mark Your Calendars for Tuesday night, October 6th, 7:15-8:30 in MGC 3!
Editor Hugh Delehanty oversees the two largest circulation publications in the world–one a lifestyle magazine, and the other, an issue-based newspaper. Previously an editor at Sports Illustrated, People, and Utne Reader, Delehanty also co-authored the national bestseller Sacred Hoops with NBA coach Phil Jackson; launched a number of new magazines; won numerous awards for editorial excellence; taught at Columbia School of Journalism; and is on the board of the American Society of Magazine Editors.
His current job? Editor-in-Chief of AARP Publications, overseeing AARP The Magazine, The AARP Bulletin, the bilingual magazine Segunda Juventud, as well as one of the nation’s fasting-growing websites, two televison shows on PBS, and several radio programs.
Mr. Delehanty will be speaking to SOC Journalism and Public Communication majors and other interested students about working in the association publication world, the opportunities in that world (particularly in DC), and especially, at AARP, where they host an exceptionally strong internship program (and where AU interns have occasionally been hired into full time positions in the past). Some hot Fall 2009 internships are still available, and Spring 2010 is right around the corner. Come for the overview, the chance to network with a well-connected editor, the first step toward your next great internship, or–who knows?–perhaps the launch of a career you hadn’t yet even considered!
