Government shutdown: October 4 updates

As we approach the weekend, I’m writing to share some news and resources related to the ongoing government shutdown. First, here are some articles with the latest information:

If you’re interested in connecting with colleagues in the federal government but can’t do so using your work email, check out GovLoop. A sort of “Facebook for Feds,” the articles and discussion forums with government and non-government employees might be of particular interest to you. GovLoop has lively, insightful discussions among its members — feel free to jump in and share your thoughts!

To end on a positive note, the Service to America Medals (“Sammies”) awards ceremony was held last night, honoring the incredible and inspiring accomplishments of federal employees during the last year. The Sammies are hosted by the Partnership for Public Service, a nonprofit that aims to promote the value of government service among the next generation of public servants. As a former Partnership employee myself, I’ve previously attended several Sammies award ceremonies and can attest to the amazing work these federal employees do. You can read more about Sammies winners here.
