    Urban Social Innovation Fellowships 

    A very exciting new social innovation initiative, Code for America is recruiting five fellows each in five cities (DC, Philadelphia, Boston, Seattle & Boulder, CO) to help cities meet the challenge of budget cuts, old technology and rising taxes. Objective is t0 create a body of knowledge for how urban institutions can rebuild themselves in the Digital Age.  Each fellow serves one year and receives a $35k stipend.   Aug 15 application deadline — apply here.

    The Next "Youth Magnet" Cities 

    Wall Street Journal says DC, Seattle and NY are the top cities for recent college grads to seek employment.

    Big cities dominate our panelists’ forecasts. Where trendy smaller cities might have captivated youth in the past, today’s recession-scarred young people are more pragmatic, placing “greater emphasis on where high-quality, high-paying jobs are created,” says Ross DeVol, director of regional economics for the nonprofit Milken Institute.
